Remember the Debate? Neither Do I.

 In Academic Indoctrination, Climate Change

From the time I first heard the “experts” claim man was causing global warming I was skeptical.  I’ve always believed we should question everything.  When we were told the debate was over before there ever was a debate, I was more skeptical.   As Thomas Jefferson said, “Question with boldness even the existence of God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear”.

We have been witnessing the blind-folded fear of anthropogenic global warming (AGW).  It’s hard to understand why people have been so willing to believed we’re causing the poles to melt when the same people told us we were going to freeze over in the 70’s.  Experts said Y2K would bring down civilization when all our computer systems failed.  Experts told us there would be a bird flu pandemic….then a swine flu pandemic….then an H1N1 pandemic.  There were fewer deaths from those types of flu than the regular flu.  How many times do the experts have to be wrong before people become more skeptical?

The reality is that most of us aren’t all that worried about global warming but those that are worried, or pretend to be, are teaching in our Universities, working as journalists and representing us in government….and they have had the microphone.

Last May, Jimmy Kimmel, in a rebuttal to the film “Climate Hustle” invited six Southern California professors to dazzle us with their expertise.  They told us their fields of study relevant to AGW and then they sold us the science by telling us we better F**KIN believe them. They even ended their dissertation with a seven year old telling us mother**kers to believe them.

Since May, Dr. James Enstrom, a retired UCLA environmental scientist, and I have exchanged emails with two UCLA professors who were featured in that video, Aradhna Tripati and Alex Hall.  We asked them to debate a climate skeptic. I told them American Freedom Alliance would arrange a debate and if they were so certain that they were correct they should welcome a debate to prove the skeptics wrong and put the matter to bed. They refused. I tried every argument. Science is based in skepticism, science is never settled, science isn’t decided by consensus and that there actually isn’t a consensus. Nope. The debate is over, they claimed. If there was a debate, I missed it……we all missed it.

In spite of not being able to get a climate alarmist to debate, American Freedom Alliance brought Dr. Willie Soon of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, one of the most prominent climate skeptics, to Los Angeles to speak on February 9th.

You might think a talk on science wouldn’t interest many people but we had an overflow audience.  Dr. Soon is as entertaining as he is informative.  Read about the event here.

The day after Dr. Soon spoke, he, Dr. James Enstrom and I spent the day at UCLA visiting climate alarmist professors and administrators around the campus to see if they would be willing to speak to Dr. Soon.  Of course none were available. The most fun was accidently running into Professor Tripati, who had rejected all our email requests.  We were outside her office when she came out. We introduced Dr. Soon, and ourselves, and she became very nervous. We asked if we could have a few minutes to speak with her. She said, unfortunately she was very busy.  She was just on her way to the ladies room and then to a “proposal”.  I guess she couldn’t think of a better excuse on the fly. Dr. Enstrom gave her a request letter, two prior email letters and the Breitbart News article about Dr. Soon’s talk.  She hurried down the hall.  We were standing at the top of some steps across from her office as Dr. Soon laughed and pointed out Professor Tripati going back into her office.

We had lunch at the Faculty Center but one of the professors who was to join us became concerned about being seen with us so we had to meet him later in a more private place.  Dr. Soon, Dr. Enstrom and I were joined by two UCLA professors who are not in the cross hairs of AGW activists. The President of the Bruins Republican club and Richard Sherman, chairman of the Los Angeles Republican Party, also attended the lunch.  One of the professors, when introduced to the President of the Bruins Republicans, said she must be very lonely.  She may be outnumbered but she’s in good company.

The President of the Bruins Republicans told us about a new class offered this semester. It’s called, “Donald Trump, Why He’s Wrong and Why We Can’t Agree to Disagree”.  I’m taking a wild guess no such class about Obama was offered during the last eight years.  But what a stunning example of how pervasive the indoctrination at UCLA has become.

Our most important visit of the day was to the office suite of Chancellor, the Provost, and the Vice Chancellor for Research.  The discomfort of the staff members at the entrance of the suite when we introduced Dr. Soon was very entertaining.  We left them the information we had given the other offices. I took pictures of Dr. Enstrom and Dr. Soon in front of the glass doors as the staff ducked for cover.

It was raining when we left Murphy Hall, the administrative building, and we had to dash across the campus to the parking structure our cars were in.  All in all it was an interesting and productive day. We got plenty of exercise walking all over the campus and up and down flights of stairs.  We had a long lunch with stimulating conservative conversation and we were very entertained by the reaction to us daring to bring a famous climate skeptic into their “safe space”.
