Victory over Jihad: Frank Gaffney on the Key to an Effective National Security Posture
The AFA conference on the topic of “Islam and Western Civilization: Can they coexist?” on August 21st included a panel on “Islam as a National Security Issue.” Frank Gaffney, founder and president of the Center for Security Policy, was the first speaker on this panel.
Gaffney began and concluded with this poignant quote from President Reagan:
Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.
For too long, and by both the right and the left, those shaping our national security policy have fallen prey to a false paradigm regarding Islam and this has contributed to policies that have only weakened us in countless ways. When organizations like the Muslim Brotherhood – whose stated mission is the destruction of Western Civilization – are embraced and allowed to help advise on national security issues, it is clear that preserving freedoms is hardly at the forefront of those charged with keeping us safe.
Only with the correct paradigm regarding Islam can we devise a national security posture that is effective at protecting this nation.
What is that correct paradigm? One where the faultline is drawn between those who follow Sharia, and those who don’t. According to Gaffney, those who adhere to Sharia are the ones who seek to subvert and destroy Western civilization, and those who don’t are our potential allies. Gaffney notes that not only is this paradigm key to creating an effective foreign policy, but we – each of us – should operate from this perspective in our thinking and in our conversation.
We are at war, he notes, and in the end, “Either we win, or they do.” If we continue with the current willful blindness as is evidenced even by our current Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, we don’t stand a chance. But if we chart a new course, and embrace a new policy focused on “Victory over Jihad,” we can, in fact, win. Gaffney noted that Mr. Trump recently laid out a comprehensive, coherent and right-minded plan for such a Victory over Jihad – in direct contrast, needless to say, to his opponent.
As Frank Gaffney concluded:
I daresay you are here because you don’t intend to [tell our children’s children what it was like to live in the US when men were free] and neither do we.
And that is exactly why the American Freedom Alliance does what we do.
